We know that the power of TikTok to provide global recognition to artists is undeniable. What could have been overlooked five years ago is now an essential tool for discovering music online. If your music is already available on this platform, we share these Random Tips that could help your music receive the recognition it deserves.

Random Tip #1: Make Sure Your Music Is Available

Although some artists go viral on TikTok thankfully, there are plenty of ways to improve your chances and work with the algorithm to reach thousands of potential fans. These fans can become followers and, in turn, those followers can become plays on Spotify, Apple Music and more. If you distribute your music with Random Sounds, you can distribute your music on micro synchronization platforms and collect royalties

Every time someone uses your music on TikTok, you'll get royalties and exposure. In addition, if you have your other profiles well linked in your TikTok bio, people will be able to discover more of your work by visiting your profile. Tools like Linktree allow you to include a single link in your bio that links to everything you have to offer, instead of having several separate links.

Random Tip #2 Use the Hashtag #NewMusic

Once your music is available on the platform, start the game. When you have a new song to release, it's important to let your fans know in every possible way. An easy way to do this is by posting a video with your song and using the hashtag #NewMusic. This hashtag serves as a hub for artists from around the world to show their new songs to TikTok users looking for something new.

Random Tip #3: Activate the 'By Artist' Feature

By activating the 'By Artist' feature, you can increase the visibility of a specific publication by pinning it to the top of the discovery page. Whether you want to highlight a post to promote a new song or draw attention to one of your releases, this is a great way to do it. Just go to the music tab in your profile, select your track and pin your 'By Artist' video to the sound details page.

Random Tip #4: Fix and Highlight Your New Song

Pinning videos to the top of your profile is a good way to showcase your most popular videos and draw attention to your latest release. You can set up to 3 songs at the top of your music tab. In addition, you can 'highlight' the title song in the first position to prioritize that track. (Note that this new label will be visible 14 days before the launch and 30 days after the launch).
To fix a song, follow these steps:
1. Go to your TikTok account.
2. Choose the video you want to pin and open it.
3. Click on the three dots on the right and select 'Fix video'.

Random Tip #5: Direct Your Fans to the 'Add to Music' Feature

Did you know that your fans can add your music from TikTok directly to their DSP libraries such as Apple, Amazon and Spotify? This is a great way to translate those TikTok fans to your streaming platforms to engage more with your content.

TikTok recommends that artists post a video explaining how to do it and directing fans to use this feature.
To connect a music app to TikTok, fans must follow these steps:

From the For You feed:

1. In the TikTok app, go to the video that contains a song that you want to add to your playlist.
2. Tap “Add Song” at the bottom.
3. Select your favorite music app and follow the instructions to connect your account.
(Note that this option may not be available everywhere.)

From the song:

1. In the TikTok app, go to the video that contains a song that you want to add to your playlist.
2. Play the sound at the bottom.
3. Tap “Add to the music app”, select your preferred music app and follow the instructions to connect your account.
4. You can also connect a music app directly from your settings by tapping Music and then Choose app.

Random Tip #6: Create content like #BehindTheSong

The behind-the-scenes content works well on all platforms. Fans (yes, we here at Random Sounds included) love to see the process behind the final product, and posting a video that tells the story of your release is a great way to deepen your connection with the audience. Whether you want to share behind-the-scenes clips from the music video or snippets of you performing the song live, it's up to you how much you want to show your fans. When you post this video, don't forget to use the hashtag #BehindTheSong to ensure that it gets even more shared.
